In a study, a large number of dogs were treated with syrup made from elm bark. After only a few days of application, a significant improvement after diarrhoea and vomiting was achieved. The elm bark has been proven to lead to harmonisation of the stomach and intestinal activity.
Another study has shown that elm bark supports the formation of mucus in the gastrointestinal tract - this prevents swallowed hairballs in cats from becoming matted and passing through the intestines more easily.
